If you work a rotating shift, your hormones are not where they should be. That isn't an opinion — it's what the research consistently shows in police officers, paramedics, nurses, and other shift workers. Testosterone in particular takes a measurable hit from disrupted circadian rhythms, and the coping mechanism most cops and medics reach for is caffeine.
The problem is that caffeine isn't hormonally neutral either. At certain doses and certain times, it raises cortisol, disrupts sleep architecture, and compounds the very problem it's masking.
How Shift Work Suppresses Testosterone
Testosterone production follows a circadian pattern. In healthy men, levels peak in the early morning and trough in the late evening. That rhythm depends on consistent sleep, consistent light exposure, and consistent meal timing. When you work nights or rotating shifts, all three signals get scrambled.
